ABOUT PUERTO PEÑASCO
Located on the Sea of Cortes (Gulf of California) in the northern section of the state of Sonora, Puerto Peñasco is approximately 60 miles south of the international border, a 4-hour drive from Phoenix or Tucson, Arizona. Also known as Rocky Point, Puerto Peñasco is built around a protected breakwater harbor. Unique marine conditions create extremes between high and low tides, often more than 20 feet, a phenomenon that also occurs in San Felipe on the Baja California side of the Sea of Cortes.

Puerto Peñasco's main industries are tourism and fishing, but it is also renowned for its numerous sandy beaches that attract hundreds of thousands of visitors per year. Swimming, sailing, snorkeling, diving, parasailing, fishing and other water and sand sports are popular activities, as are sunset cruises along the coast and boat charters to Isla San Jorge (Bird Island), inhabited by thousands of flocking birds and friendly sea lions.

Local points of interest include Cet-Mar Aquarium, CEDO (the Intercultural Center for the Study of Deserts and Oceans), and the nearby El Pinacate National Park with its ancient volcanic craters and lunar landscape.

Rocky Point offers complete services including hotels, resorts, RV parks, condominiums, restaurants, nightclubs, markets, banks, marinas, auto repair stores, pharmacies and medical facilities. Annual events include sand drag races, triathlons, fishing derbies, sailboat regattas and bathtub races as well as celebrations of traditional Mexican holidays.
