Meling Ranch (Rancho San Jose)
Directions

GETTING HERE
The Meling Ranch is a 3-hour drive from Ensenada (2 hours on the paved Transpeninsular Highway, 1 hour on a graded dirt road). For your safety and the well-being of your vehicle, we recommend that you drive the 32-mile dirt road at speeds not in excess of 20-30mph. Use low gear when climbing the hill. Since there are occasional oncoming vehicles, it is best to stay on the right side of the road, especially when approaching curves. Be sure to watch for cattle and other livestock crossing the road.

Please do not forget to fill up your tank before turning off from Highway 1 to our ranch. No gas or AV fuel is available here. There is a Pemex just 1/4 mile north of the turnoff to Meling Ranch, Sierra San Pedro National Park and the National Observatory.

While visiting Meling Ranch, you may also want to take an interesting side trip to the Sierra San Pedro Martir Park and National Observatory, which is an additional 30-mile, 1 1/2 hour drive (depending on road conditions). There are no facilities or gas within the Park or Observatory; visitors must bring their own water, food, etc. No motorcycles or quads are permitted at the Observatory or within the Park.

Although the Park is open 24 hours, the Observatory only opens to visitors from 11am to 1pm (except Dec. 15 thru Jan. 15). Visitors must park at the gate at the end of the dirt road, then hike 1 1/2 miles up the paved access road to the domed Observatory structures.
